As we welcome in 2013, we take a moment to reflect on our year of travel in 2012 and bring you 12 months of travel in photographs. There is one image to represent each month of the year but not each destination visited – we went to so many amazing places and it was difficult to choose which ones to include!
We rounded off 2012 and kicked off 2013 in Burma, and celebrated New Years Eve at Inle Lake. This would be the first of 2 amazing visits to Burma / Myanmar this year. February saw us revisiting a perennial favourite – Cambodia – and March took us back to Burma, this time to explore Mrauk U amongst others, before hopping over to China. We travelled the Silk Route to Urumqi and from there flew to Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan. Although Kyrgyzstan was beautiful, and a good introduction to Central Asia, things didn’t quite go to plan and by early May we were back in China, this time in Kashgar.
We spend a few days looking around Macau before returning to our favourite haunt, Chiang Mai where we stayed until the end of June. In July we did a great trip to Sri Lanka, exploring the lesser-visited northern town of Jaffna and the unspoilt East Coast. Our flight from Sri Lanka took us to Kuala Lumpur and from there we had a relaxing week in Malacca before undertaking an extreme detox on Ko Phangan.
Then it was back to the UK for a few weeks to catch up with family and friends before returning in late October to our “home from home”, Chiang Mai where we spent most of the rest of 2012. We ended the year in Vietnam, this time celebrating the start of 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City.
