Reminiscent of a stretched accordion, the building functioned as a centre for cultural and leisure activities for the city’s railway workers. The structure was recognised as an architectural monument in 1987 and awarded cultural heritage status. In 2000, the Palace of Culture for the Railway Workers became the Central House of Science and Technology of the Southern Railway.
