Ušće Tower
Location: Belgrade, Serbia
Constructed: 1962-1964
Architect: Mihailo Janković
Former name: Palace of Socio-Political Organisations
Genre: Modernist, Socialist architecture, former Yugoslavia
Originally the Palace of Socio-Political Organisations and used to house a number of Yugoslavia’s governmental bodies, the tower was targeted by NATO as part of its 1999 bombing of Belgrade during the Kosovo War. Large sections of the building were either badly damaged or destroyed outright as a result of the NATO attacks and the tower was reconstructed between 2002 and 2005. Two additional floors were added during the renovation project, taking its height from 98 metres to 110 metres, not including the antenna. The skyscraper was privatised after the collapse of Yugoslavia and renamed the Ušće Tower. A second twin tower (Ušće Tower 2) was constructed next to the original one between 2018 and 2020.
