Boska Shopping Centre
Location: Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina
Completed: 1978
Architects: Velimir Neidhardt, Ljerka Lulić and Jasna Nosso
Genre: Modernist, Socialist architecture, former Yugoslavia
The department store was built as part of the reconstruction of Banja Luka after two successive earthquakes on the 26th and 27th of October 1969 destroyed a lot of the city’s buildings and infrastructure. When it opened in 1978, the five-storey shopping centre was one of the largest of its kind in Yugoslavia and is the only mega department store from that era to still be functioning.
