Occupying the site of an old Austro-Hungarian fortification, Vraca Memorial Park is dedicated to the thousands of Sarajevans, both partisans and civilians, who were killed during the National Liberation War (World War II). Many of the victims were butchered at the actual location because the occupying Axis forces turned the fortress into a prison camp and execution site during the war.
