The monument marks the 70th anniversary of the first gathering of the various socialist groups within Bulgaria on the southern slope of Buzludzha Peak on 2nd August 1891. The meeting was set in motion by Dimitâr Blagoev, a philosopher and founding member of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Workers’ Party, which became the Bulgarian Communist Party.
