The 5-metre bronze statue of Lenin was unveiled on 4th October 1987 to mark the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution. The monument is the work of Zair Azgur (1908-1995), a renowned Soviet-Belarusian sculptor and artist who was responsible for other works of monumentalism including relief inside the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Minsk.
