Paìsiy Hilendàrski (1722-c.1773) was a Bulgarian scholar and clergyman who was supposedly born in Bansko. He was an important Bulgarian National Revival figure and is best known for being the author of Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya (Slavonic-Bulgarian History), an important historical book that was published in 1762 and is credited with inspiring an awakening of the Bulgarians’ national spirit during a period when their country was under Ottoman rule.
