During the period of the Soviet Union, the Transnistria region produced a significant amount of electricity, which was exported to other countries within the USSR as well as the Eastern Bloc. The monument commemorates the 30th anniversary of the construction of the Dubossary HPP, which was completed in 1954 and the first power plant in the Moldavian SSR.
