Ortachala Fire Station
Location: Tbilisi, Georgia
Completed: 1979
Artist: Givi Kervalishvili
Genre: Mosaic, Soviet artwork, former USSR
Several of Tbilisi’s notable buildings make up the backdrop behind the dominant poised and ready for action firefighter on the facade of Ortachala Fire Station. Spanning different historical eras, structures include the medieval Metekhi Church, the Stalinist Empire-style Tbilisi Circus and as well as examples of (at the time) contemporary Soviet Modernism such as the Palace of Sports and the former Iveria Hotel (now the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel). The scene is juxtaposed with architecture such as Persian and Byzantine to convey the city’s association with East-meets-West.

Hey Guys! I’m returning to Georgia in a couple of weeks (just for a couple of days, sadly!) and would love to see this mosaic. I’m having trouble finding it on Google Maps – could you assist with the location?
Thanks much!
Nick
