The monument marks the 100th year anniversary of Perushtitsa’s participation in the 1876 April Uprising against the Ottoman Empire. It is also dedicated to two other revolutionary periods in Bulgaria’s more recent history; the (failed) 1923 September Uprising and the 1941-1944 partisan movement during World War II.
